She has spent the last four years delighting and amusing audiences all over the world with her unique and delicious blend of music, taking up photography late last year as a hobby in between touring, fascinated by the world around her as seen through a camera lens. Primarily a folk singer of sorts, Emaline likes to tell stories and keep people guessing, and asking questions in response to her art. In March she embarked on a new journey with photography, including portraiture into her work as well as accompanying poetry for selected photos. As with music, Emaline has no formal education in photography and is just beginning to form a style with her photo art including themes such as sexuality, death, darkness and light utilising shadows, skin and vibrant colours. Canadian by way of Australia, singer/song writer Nicola Moore knew she wanted to perform from a very young age. She followed the typical route of singing in high school shows, plays and community events; but her desire to sing for larger and larger audiences is growing. She now lives in Toronto Canada with the belief that the city filled with 4,558,800 people will again one day - be too small a city to perform in… Studying music throughout the course of her life has given Nicola the gift of creating music to endless degrees. There’s definitely a need for awareness of available service organizations within the Parkdale area, whether this be for help in finding a job, finding a place to stay, or getting the next meal. The goal of the Festival is to create awareness by providing a fun interactive community based event. The end result is to create an accessible reference database of services that are available to youth. The Festival will be comprised of various components, including an "Interactive Art Zone" where individuals can contribute to a “mural of street art". At the end of the day these pieces will be offered to various community organizations in hopes that they are proudly displayed. Throughout the day there will also be a rotation of DJ’s at the DJ Station spinning an array of musical genres, a variety of performances, the Rainbow Web, face painting and wading pool, a Marketplace of local artisans and vendors, and a Community Information Fair with displays of materials from various youth organizations. This is a free event that will go rain or shine as Masaryk-Cowan Community Centre has generously offered their gymnasium should the event need to be moved indoors. This is the last weekend before youth head back to school which makes it all that much more important to get this information out. Come out and support the leaders of tomorrow. Money will be raised through donations and raffles, with proceeds going directly to the various youth organizations. Patti Waterfield (www.houseofcachet.com) Making art has always been an important part of my life. It has been a way for me to keep in touch with the world that is sort of lost to me now. I grew up in Pakistan, but have lived in Toronto, Canada for all of my adult years. My paintings are about nature and the duality of everything in the Universe. Though my work is very representational, it is often fantastical, made so through my deliberate use of colour, I can draw upon my personal memory and dreams to create various images. I do this in order to be able to twist the familiar so that I can present it in a different way that I hope is fresh and though provoking. Her paintings are about spirituality and life, about our loss of respect for each other and working towards a making a better world for all. The painting "Fractured Light" is about this physical and spiritual discord. Member of Workman Theatre Project and Inspirations Studio - Inspirations Studio is a Community Economic Development project where low income women make pottery paintings and jewelry to supplement their income. TK Workman is a multimedia artist, who is committed to exploring environmentalism and social issues in her artwork. TK is a member of Inspirations; she has taken part in numerous sales and shows that the studio presents, including a show this past November at Metro Hall. Her work has also been included in the “Being Scene” juried show at Workman Theatre for the past four years. TK¹s watercolor and acrylic paintings explore her interest in the environment while celebrating the goddess imagery. As a potter she creates utilitarian bowls and covered pots that she decorates with fine detail. Dedicated to educating the public about environmental issues and the preservation of trees, TK has created a line of cards, based on her images that are printed on tree free paper. Born in July 1972 in Montreal Quebec, and moved to Toronto in 1984. She has been drawing and painting since her childhood years and was recognized for creative achievements in grade school. Attended high school in Toronto from 1984-1991, and was involved in the Visual Arts Program. After graduation, she went onto Ontario College or Art and Design where she studied Material Arts, Print and Design as well as Painting. Upon completing her studies at OCAD in 1997, Deborah studied New Media design at the Bell Centre for Creative Communications. Deborah has spent the last six years working with various art directors and individuals on many multimedia projects and print advertisements. She has also worked as a graphic artist in package design for a marketing firm. At the present time she is back at OCAD to obtain a degree in Design with interests in Education and Art Therapy for the future. She enjoys coordinating art shows and participating in art appreciation gatherings of all kinds in her spare time. Artists who have inspired her along they way are Picasso, Matisse, Van Gogh, Klimt, Hockney and Chagall. Deborah enjoys playing with bold colour schemes and patterns, which can be identified in the piece here entitled “Cathedral”. Deborah describes herself as an artist with an entrepreneurial spirit and will continue to further develop her painting style.
